Public spaces and venues are continuously and rapidly changing: in the new entertainment venues, as well as in the new spaces for food service, hospitality and retail entertainment, the design and the whole atmosphere are today decisive.
The bathroom environment as well as the other service spaces, are today fundamental elements in the building of the atmosphere and character of the venues and can become also places with a strong identity.
A specialisation for today’s designers
The transformation of the bathroom environment in public venues, hospitality spaces and the new retail involves a wide and varied industry and highly potential markets for designers that hold the creative, technical and technological competences that are today necessary.
Furthermore it is a specialisation field essential and qualifying for designers and architects addressing these important markets.
The new course by Poli.Design
Consortium of Politecnico di Milano
Poli.Design-Consortium of Politecnico di Milano has established the first and only course in Europe of high standard training in “Bathroom Design”, a postgraduate course for architects and designers interested in specialising in design for the bathroom environment in public, hospitality and entertainment venues, in touch with the evolution of the market and the aesthetic languages.
Specialised lecturers and vanguard professionals
The teaching staff includes the most renowned Italian designers in the hospitality sector and high profile personalities of Politecnico di Milano who will be in charge of the planning, design, furniture and materials topics, and a selected number of experts who will focus on advanced entrepreneurial, technical and technological topics.

The course in “Bathroom Design” expands and completes Poli.Design’s educational offer, which is aimed at a permanent updating of professional competences and a continuous scientific confrontation with the main innovation, product and system issues.
A high-standard specialisation Course
The course of High Standard Training in “Bathroom Design” is reserved to 30 Italian and foreign participants.
It will have a critical and formative character and will focus on all aspects concerning planning: design, building and characterization of the bathroom environment, furniture, fittings, new materials and the use of colours, role of light and sound technologies, the evolution of the market and new trends.
Professional opportunities
Participants will acquire design skills and will receive a certificate of attendance by Poli.Design-Consortium of Politecnico di Milano.
They will be able to cooperate with companies of the design, planning, host, furniture, technical sectors and buyers of the entertainment, hospitality and retail industries.
Structure of the course
The course develops through theoretic-practical modules for a total of 120 hours of frontal lessons, practical exercises and a final project work that will assess the acquired creative and designing skills.
In touch with the industry, the market and professional operators
The cooperation with specialised companies and the sponsoring institutions will offer participants a constant contact with the operators of the sector.
The research and application results developed in the final project work will be presented with a preview at SIA Guest’09, the Academic Partner of the course, the annual Rimini Fiera trade show dedicated to the operators of the host sector.
Educational tours
During the course lecturers will lead participants on visits to the most representative new entertainment venues in Milan and their toilettes, selected by typology: Hotels, Show Restaurants, DJ Bars of atmosphere, Retail Entertainment Design and Lounge Clubs.
Candidates
The course is reserved to graduates of first and second degree, preferably in architecture, design or engineering, and professionals interested in specialising in design and layout planning of innovative bathrooms in public venues and innovative spaces.
Duration and Venue
The course takes place from 9th to 26th February 2009 with an attendance of 15 days, 8 hours a day.

Admission
The admission to the course, for a maximum of 30 students, will be subject to a selection process.
Before the interview candidates must send a CV describing in brief their studies and the possible professional experience.
It is suggested that they will bring their own computer for the Project Work.
Fee and Study Grants
Euro 4000 + VAT (€ 3500 + € 500 of admission fee).
The academic partner SIA Guest ’09 and the sponsoring companies offer study grants for deserving candidates.
